from my journal

This May Sunday afternoon, I look out my window to see Sarah squatting in front of her bright yellow coreopsis. Harre is beside her eating something off of another bush. She is on the other side of the little hedge in front of her house, so I can’t see everything she is doing.
The two peonie blossoms that looked yesterday as if they might be going, are not there today, so the bush is very tidy with only three pink buds against the green.
Sarah gathers together a handful of red clover blooms and puts them with the yellow coreopsis. I watch her cut a purple stem, and then stand. Now I can see that she has made an impressive bouquet of flowers that includes the peonies and several other blooms I don’t recognize. She and Harre move on down the walk out of my sight.
