vaguely villanelleous

Sometimes it seems life molds our dreams then smashes them to hell,
Johnny Weissmuller and Carol Burnett have given us a cue.
This is the place to claim your space and do a Tarzan yell!
Cheatin’ and lyin’, there’s no denyin’ we’re in for a sorrowful spell,
When charlatans are stealing what belongs to me and you,
And paid-for men are voted in and twist our laws to hell.
So, I can see how it might be that you do not feel well,
That you lose heart and entertain a cynical point of view.
But don’t despair, take in air, and do a Tarzan yell.
It is your right to find delight when things are rank and fell,
And peace of mind is hard to find inside this witch’s brew,
And the cost of what we’ve lost will make you mad as hell.
And so, we fight to set things right, this insurrection quell.
Let’s make a vow that we’ll start now to do what we can do.
And though it’s crude, let’s boost our mood, and do a Tarzan yell.
A belly laugh can cut in half the pain of things pell-mell,
And silliness inspires desire to start all things anew.
The whole wide world deserves to know you’re going to fight like hell
You are no slouch, get off the couch! and do your Tarzan yell.
